SC541

What it means

Center fusing thermistor reads below 0°C for several seconds, or the heater never comes up. The most common Ricoh service call. Machine stops; SC reset after the repair.

Likely causes

• Paper wrap on the hot roller / belt
• Thermistor connector unplugged or heat-damaged
• Thermistor glazed with toner (reads cold forever)
• Open heater lamp or tripped thermal fuse / thermostat
• Fusing unit not seated after a jam

1. 1Cool downMain power off, unplug. Wait 10 minutes. The sleeve/roller will burn you and a hot thermistor reading is meaningless.
2. 2Clear wrapsOpen the fuser. Remove paper, labels, envelope seams. Do not scratch the sleeve. A wrap is the #1 cause on IM C4510.
3. 3ThermistorAt the front of the fusing unit, inspect the NC (non-contact) thermistor / thermopile seating. Clean a glazed tip with IPA on a lint-free swab once fully cool. Confirm the connector is locked.
4. 4Heater and fuseContinuity on the heater element and the thermostat / thermal fuse. Open = replace the fusing unit (or the lamp + fuse if the model services them separately).
5. 5Reseat and resetSeat the fuser fully. Power on. If 541 is still latched, enter SP mode → SP5-810-001 SC Reset → execute → reboot. If it returns on the next warm-up, the hardware is still bad.
