What it means

Controller timed out waiting for the engine. One of the most common IM C ‘dead machine’ codes after a controller, HDD, or firmware job.

Likely causes

• Engine and controller firmware not a pair
• HDD/SSD missing or dying (engine waits, controller never finishes boot)
• I/F cable
• IOB or controller

1. 1Watch the bootDoes the SOP get past the splash? Do engine fans start? Panel-only death with engine alive → controller/HDD. Both silent → PSU/IOB.
2. 2HDD/SSDReseat the disk on the controller. A 672 that appeared after a shock or a move is often the SSD unseated. SC853/860 in history confirms it.
3. 3FirmwareFlash the exact engine + controller pair for IM C4510/C5510/C6010 (or the family you are on). Do not mix C3000 firmware onto a C4510.
4. 4I/F then boardsReseat engine I/F. Replace IOB, then controller.
